Andy,
between the classified and this directory projects you have covered what I have been searching for since upgrading to IPB3. I can't help on the coding/skinning side however if you need thoughts on what features I'd be interested in I'd be more than happy to assist. Same goes for any usability testing.
Not rushing you as I realise your in the depths of IP.Classifieds however will you be moving onto this project soon?
Keep up the great work.
Mark
Looking forward to this one...

Hi Mark,
I have no idea when I'll be able to start on this one but I am thinking about it all the time. I want to keep it away from being "yet another directory" and I'm thinking along the lines of encouraging the businesses to be more active with it. Posting offers, responding to feedback etc. Feel free to post suggestions as it's a completely blank canvas at the moment. Classifieds has priority at the moment though.

What Andy hasn't pointed out is that he already has an active community based around a small town of between 15K and 30K people. So what we are getting is not some programmer's idea of what is needed, it's what a real town community is demanding.
And... quite frankly... it's so dozy a town that if they work there they will work well anywhere!

What is the latest about this one? I have just posted a request for a "Yellow Pages" type mod, and it sounds like you are already developing what I am looking for!

By the way, I would be quite happy to pay for this mod, so if you need some funds to help get it developed.................

I would very much appreciate such module. I have started building a community pages for a district of our capital city based on IP products, but I am short of strong modules required for such community, Classifieds is one of them and some sort of Yellow Pages or Directory would be the one I would need. I am willing ot support such project as much as possible.

Hi Andy,
My community deals with an entire country, and it would be great to have merchants in various cities pay to have their businesses listed. I had been working on something similar but I'm not much of a coder.
I've run across numerous small businesses which wouldn't shell out the money for a full-blown website, but would pay an amount each year for a "brochure" type website as an advertisement on my site, basically a one-pager with everything someone would need to learn what they offer and where they are.
Anyway just some ideas regarding what I'd like to see:
A photo (even a rotating slide show) showing images of the business, and the ability to upload photos from an interface. This would be great for hotels, restaurants, bars, any business which wants to show off what they have inside (and outside)
A Google map showing the business's location with geocoordinates in the submission form
A content area which accepts HTML, so for example if a restaurant wanted to display a menu, the items could be entered into a table.
Two languages ability, with the content area having a "tab" to switch back and forth between languages (in my case English and Turkish). Stuff like the address, telephone number, etc wouldn't need to be in two languages, only the content describing the business.
